In 1851, John William Napper was living in Slaugham, Sussex when the worldwide cholera epidemic made deadly passes through England and Wales. [1]

In 1861, John William Napper was living in Lower Beeding, Sussex, a time when the railroad industry swiftly expanded in England. [2]

The 1881 Census, taken in April, has John's future wife Mary (nee Botting) Lilliott listed as "Wife Of Labourer." Her son John Perry (or Percy) Napper was born on May 13, 1881, in Tunbridge Hill, Kent, England. It looks like her first husband Amos died in June 1881 in Cuckfield. [12]

Marriage
John married Mary Ann Botting on January 7, 1883 Tunbridge Hill, Kent, England, on January 7, 1883, when he was 41 years old. [8] She was 24 and this was her second marriage, her first one having been to Amos Lelliott when she was only 14 (27 Jul 1873 • Horsham, Sussex, England).

The family had immigrated to Canada by 1891 as that census shows them living in Montréal, Quebec. Mary's daughters Emily, Jane, and Jemima are living with them. [4]

Son Gordon Thomas was born on February 21, 1895, in Montréal, Quebec.

According to William's baptism record in 1897, John worked as a tobacco shipper.


His son James was born on June 27, 1898. [7]

Death of Wife
His wife Mary Ann passed away on November 27, 1899, in Montréal, Quebec, at the age of 40. They had been married 16 years.

In 1901 John William Napper lived in Montréal, Quebec with his 5 year old son Gordon, daughter Jane, and son-in-law George Wade. [5]


His son William passed away on August 10, 1913, in Quebec at the age of 29.

Death
John William Napper died on March 1, 1915, when he was 73 years old. He was buried at Hawthorne-Dale Cemetery, Mount Royal, Quebec. [6]
